Alessia Bisini

My name is Alessia and I’m a 20-year-old university student from Milan, Italy. I’m currently studying Languages, Communications and Media, and in the near future I’d like to become a full-time journalist.

At the moment, I’m writing for two Italian websites called TwitMix Project and, where I create content about music, TV series, movies, and occasionally, books. Since March 2015, I’ve been working as a radio host for TwitMix Radio, a local web radio station associated with the TwitMix Project. I’m also working as a press agent for a previous X Factor contestant, and I’ve recently opened up a blog called “Lexi’s At The Junction,” where I talk about my favourite books and what’s going on in the publishing industry.

I like interviewing people, taking photographs, making videos and writing reviews, as they allow me to express my opinion and interact with those who read my articles.

Last but not least, I love travelling and meeting new people, that’s why I can’t wait to embark on this incredible journey in Madrid!

James Hill

I am a driven, confident and social person with a keen interest in journalism. For me, tapping into the cultural Zeitgeist rapidly and efficiently, being the first one to explore a new story, event and covering a trending topic is an area which interests and motivates me.

I study Hispanic Studies and History at the University of Birmingham, and in order to create a strong portfolio of work, I have supplemented my degree in Modern Languages and History by regularly writing, proof reading and researching for a host of magazines and newspapers, including: The Tab, The Worldly Magazine, Redbrick Magazine & The Linguist Magazine on travel, current affairs, culture and the arts.

I respond to a friendly yet intensive atmosphere, working well under my own initiative or as part of a team. I am outgoing and open to new ideas and concepts, and as a self-confessed perfectionist, this is a tenet which I hope to emulate in my written work.

Moreover, I know that a well-written article that captures the public Zeitgeist can enthral and entice a reader. For Espectaculart, I aim to produce high quality, well written and interesting work.

I have a keen interest in Arts and Culture within the Hispanic and European context. I know I bring an enthusiastic attitude to every element of my work and hope to network successfully, build contacts and gain invaluable experience.

Katharina Hofer

My name is Katharina Hofer and currently I am studying Media Management in Austria.

Since my exchange semester in Letterkenny, Ireland, I am sure that I want to pursue an international career, and I thought that the RGNN Academy Seminar would be a great opportunity to start.

I have always been interested in writing. That is why I worked for my school magazine in college and also, why I enrolled in a German literature course. Furthermore, I love to travel and to take photographs, so I decided to choose the GapBrave & MADbudget Channels to improve my skills.

I am an open-minded person, who loves to see new things, meet new people and cultures. I am really looking forward to this summer in Madrid to gain new experiences and to take part in this Seminar. I am sure it will be a great time!

Currently in my fourth semester working for UCA’s student newspaper, The Echo, I am online editor and have held three other section-editor positions while on staff.

Cultural Studies is one of my main academic interests and I believe experiencing, and understanding, different cultures and people is vital to personal and social growth.

Travel, the ocean, dogs and spicy food are some of my favorite things and I’m known for my terrible jokes.

Ana Martinez

My name is Ana Martinez, I’m 22-years-old and I live in Oxford, Mississippi. When I was growing up, I idolized Chloe Sullivan on Smallville. So much so that I one day looked at my mother and stated that I wanted to be a journalist.

I didn’t know a thing about being a journalist as a child, but I did know about story telling. It had always been a passion of mine. I loved to hear and tell stories. I would even construct stories to, either act out with my Barbies or tell to my stuffed animals.

I started taking my desire to be a journalist more seriously in high school. Though I never had much experience being a journalist, until I got to the University of Mississippi. Since then, I’ve written articles for my classes and I even had the opportunity to go on a school reporting trip to Hernando, MS where I got to experience being published for the first time. I may not be a “Chloe Sullivan ace reporter” just yet, but I do plan on getting better.

My goal is to engage my readers the way Socrates did his pupils. I want them to be able to see the things I see and feel the things I feel. I want my readers to hear what it is I have to say and think about it. I want them to be able to form their own opinions based on my writing.

Ioana Traistaru

Hi! My name is Ioana and I am a 19-year-old student coming from Romania. I am currently completing my Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. As this is my first year in university, I want to make the best of it and not miss any opportunity.

My dream career is working in the advertising and publishing industry; both journalism-related industries.

Sketching and drawing are among my favorite hobbies; I get my inspiration from the people I meet and the places I visit, so you can imagine that I am a passionate traveler and movie enthusiast.

The studies I am pursuing allow me to conduct interviews and use journalistic theories for the assignments I have to complete.

I am excited about acquiring new insights into the journalist industry here, at the RGNN Academy. Next year, I have to choose my focus study area and so far, journalism is my first choice. This summer, I want to get the first sip of how that would taste.

Glamour, fashion and lifestyle are my subjects of interest and I’ve been “researching” them since I was a child. All the glossy magazines with articles and fashion editorials caught my eye, and now I want to be the one who writes them. I can’t wat to start this Seminar!

I have always had a passion for the written word; starting from a young age, I would fill notebooks with stories and my deepest thoughts. Writing is not just a hobby to me, but also a therapeutic outlet, and something I would love to make a career out of someday. This is why I chose to study communication with a public relations focus at the University of Dayton.

Writing papers at the university level has helped me to grow and thrive as a writer. I have been taught and challenged to think outside of the box in terms of my writing skills.

Upon my May 2016 graduation, I hope to work as a content creator for a fashion company. Eventually, I would like to secure a position with a magazine company as a fashion journalist.

I look forward to continuing honing my craft during the Summer 2016 ROOSTERGNN Seminar.

Gabriella Johannisson Gonzalez

It’s more than clear that my personality’s take on elements of creativeness and education differs greatly from the average individual. I can only assume that it was because, to me, it has always been more interesting to analyze the use of repetition in a politician’s speech, a playwright’s text, or an author’s novel as a way of focusing the spectator on a specific emotion or theme, than to play non-aesthetic video games as many of my friends did.

I’ve chosen a life where I’m running a marathon, in which my persecutor is ignorance and my finish line is a form of utopian self-awareness, one that works parallel with all the things I both directly and indirectly submit to society. It’s well known to those around me that my prolific nature is a product of the art I create and perform as an actress, but most importantly, as an artist.

However, as an artist I cannot let my existence and the creative product of my imagination be narrowed down into a singular scope of theatre and the aesthetic composure of art. It is for that precise reason, that during my student years I embarked on a path in which my art was merged with the cultural and ethical context of individuals and communities.

Whether it be analyzing articles and poems during my free time, reading psychology books elaborating on the concept of social evolution, or relentlessly debating the extent of social equity in my school’s Diversity Group, online Feminist Group called “Women Under Fire” or doing workshops about gender equality with underprivileged South African teenagers, I always find myself coming back to the theme of journalism; assessing specific assets of culture and ethics that are of great significance in the arts.

Ana Londoño

I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, but grew up moving every couple of years. I spent my school years in Caracas, Venezuela; Santiago de Chile; Buenos Aires, Argentina and Panamá, Panamá.

When I graduated from high school, I went to the University of Miami where I completed the first two years of my undergraduate degree, majoring in journalism. During my years at UM, I was part of the university’s Spanish news program: Univision.

I transferred to Emerson College in the fall of 2015 and I’m currently in my junior year of college. At Emerson, I am an anchor and correspondent for the Spanish news program: WEBN Noticiero.

During my summers in college, I have returned to Panamá to work for local companies. After my freshman year, I interned for TVN Panamá, the local TV network. At TVN, I shadowed the executive producer through the production of a sports commentary show during the 2014 World Cup. Subsequently, I was the social media manager of a design store. After my sophomore year, I interned for the Panamanian correspondent of W Radio.

When I graduate, I wish to become an anchor for Telemundo or Univision.

Danielle Smith

I am originally from a small town in Oregon, though I previously taught English in South Korea.

Before journeying oversees to teach the loveliest bunch of kids my native language, I graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in the (somewhat obscure) major of Arts & Letters.

This unique experience allowed me to take a diverse range of classes and—while it can be regarded as The-Degree-For-Students-Who-Just-Don’t-Know-What-To-Do—I like to view it as more of a “Documentation of Heterogeneous Knowledge”… which sounds pretty cool, right? Luckily, this variance in education has kindled my curiosity and broadened my perspective.

With a strong motivation to continually push my limits and discover new possibilities, as well as a profound passion for writing, I have recently decided to embark on my dream of traveling, connecting with people, and gaining new insights.

To further elaborate, there is an anonymous, picturesque quote floating around on Pinterest that says, “The world is too big to spend in one place and life is too short to do just one thing.” While I was never able to find out exactly where that originated, it has always stuck with me. I am a firm believer in going out and exploring all that our world has to offer, meanwhile sharing knowledge, skills, and insight with others. I enjoy writing with a relatable narrative in order to comfortably engage my readers.

My goal is to help participate in connecting cultures all around this beautiful Earth and to support education. I hope that taking a big step towards a career in Journalism will assist me in achieving this objective. It is truly a privilege to be able to begin this program and I am looking forward to meeting everyone.

My journalism interests tend to lean more toward long-form feature pieces, social commentary, and investigative journalism, and my experiences reflect those interests.

I’ve edited and written for several school publications and interned with a local magazine last summer. I hope to continue in magazine or travel journalism upon graduation in May 2017.

Who knows – maybe I’ll end up back in Madrid!

Laura García del Valle

I’m Laura, an 18-year-old girl studying Journalism at City University London. I decided to study Journalism because I am a really curious person, I like knowing everything that is going on around me. Among my passions are reading, writing and travelling – so learning and trying new things is something that I really enjoy.

Since I was younger, fashion has always been something really important in my life. I loved the moment when my mother allowed me to decide my own outfit and stood staring at the wardrobe thinking ‘How am I feeling today?’ This is how I would describe fashion. It is the way the human being perceives their personality and expresses themselves. It is not all about trends, but feelings.

As a fashion lover, it would be my dream to work for a fashion magazine. Therefore, during this opportunity I would love to learn how to write and talk about this field to a demanding public.

Noemie Amanda Gombe-Kette

My name is Noemie and I am 25 years old.

I am French, living in England and studying fashion journalism.

After my studies, I would like to work for several magazines to gain more experience and acquire contacts within the industry. Subsequently, I have the ambition to create my own magazine and work with Afro-Americans and Africans to create a “Vogue” for black people.

I used to work for a fashion blogger, The Rakish Gent, as a street style photographer. Also, I had a really good experience with the newspaper Birmingham Mail as a street style photographer, again. My photographs were published every Friday. I have also been modelling for a magazine last year called Soton Magazine.

I am really into fashion, photography and arts. I have a blog where I put all my interviews and pictures: The NonoZone.

I am a creative person, and love to discover and try new things. I do not like to stay in the same place for too long, so when I can I jump on a plane, I do, and can’t wait for the next adventure.

Christina Gerew

My name is Christina Gerew and I am a rising senior at Rutgers University majoring in Journalism with a double minor in History and Spanish. Having been passionate all my life for the arts, sports, and working in the high fashion industry as a model, a career in the world of global fashion and health journalism has always been my dream.

I have my parents to thank for cultivating a rich desire to explore and experience new cultures and places. My mother was born in Saudi Arabia and is of Portuguese and Indian descent, while my father’s ancestry is a fusion of English, French, Canadian, Native American and Irish. As a result of such a diverse amalgam, I grew up with an innate thirst to soak up faraway places and cultures. My initial gateway into the world of journalism manifested in the pages of Vogue and National Geographic.

I have been passionate about the arts for as long as I can remember and have studied classical ballet and played the viola since a very young age. I strongly believe in challenging myself to grow as a person as I broaden my perspective and understanding of the world. I am a sports aficionado and love basketball, soccer, tennis and running.

My second year in college I participated in a study-abroad program and homestay for four months in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. This previous immersion in the Spanish language and culture whet my appetite for professional growth and I hope this program can continue to foster my multi-lingual writing. I am excited to return to the incomparable city of Madrid and to make new friends with whom I can share the experience!

I was employed as an intern for the summer at a local magazine. During this experience, I was trusted with interviewing important figures.

After getting my first article published, I was trusted with many more articles thus leading the Editor-in-Chief to extend my internship, initially a month long, to a six-month internship.

My goal is to write for world recognized new networks, not for the fame but for the recognition of all the hard work that led to this very moment.

Currently, I’m employed by the Kern County Farm Bureau where I select a local farmer to nterview him or her, and write articles for the agricultural community.

I originally studied Music Technology in the UK, but due to traveling the world and living abroad, I have become a more curious individual about the world and the way it works, taking a particular interest in social justice, inequality, politics, religion, freedom of expression and geopolitics.

This has led me to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics at The Open University and I’m currently based in Madrid. I’ve had a passion for writing since I was a child. I’ve been a travel blogger on and off for 3 years, I’m currently finishing a book written for ESL students and I’m an ESL teacher. Alongside my studies, I like to write about politics, religion, freedom of expression and geopolitics, and where possible, in the future, I’d like to combine this with my love of photography and develop skills in photojournalism, too.

Sofie Hörtler

“Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.” This slogan clearly represents my way of life. Anything I do has to be done with pure passion.

I’ve always had some rough idea of what I want to be when I grow up but it’s never been clear enough. While growing up, I’ve developed a strong interest for human rights issues. I’ve enjoyed analyzing economic systems and ideologies, the North-South gap, or the treatment of minorities. As time passed, I came to realize that journalism ultimately is the place for me to combine, on the one hand my interest the above mentioned issues, and on the other hand, my pursuit of having a say in this world.

I’m a 20 year-old, first-year Media Management student from Vienna, Austria. My studies focus on the strategic management of media companies and understanding how they work. During both my high school and first university year, I participated in my school’s magazine as editorial staff and photographer.

Besides my attempt to make changes in this world, I am a dedicated traveler. When I was 15, I went on an exchange to the beautiful West Coast in the USA. At age 16, I did a 14-week internship on the French West Coast. This September, I’m off to Valencia to do my study abroad there. Meeting international people is what enriches my personal development and my world-view the most.

In my free time I love doing sports (running, cycling, gym, tennis, hiking, …) and traveling. I’m very much into photography as well (check out my photos here).

I’m looking forward to joining RGNN Academy in Madrid and I believe that it will be a great experience.
